[Feature Request] Automatic Tuning Based on Device Capabilities #4597
-
DescriptionI was trying to figure out why my instance of SyncThing was not saturating my LAN connection and I looked through (SyncThings's configuration tuning guide. I got tired of trying to tweak performance and realized that this didn't have to be so difficult. Since SyncThing's devs and forum users already know which settings need to be changed to maximize performance or minimize RAM usage, etc., why can't SyncThing automatically detect how fast of a system it is running on and adjust these settings accordingly? Because actual system performance might not correlate exactly with system specs due to whatever other things are running at the time, SyncThing might not always be able to reliably figure out what it should be optimizing itself for at the moment. Thus it might be wise to also provide in the UI the option to optimize SyncThing for things like performance, limited memory, slow network, etc., without the user having to understand the underlying settings that are being tweaked. In this scenario the default would be auto. OtherNo response |
