Distributed Tracing with FastAPI and requests

I have a Fast API App, that calls other fastAPI apps using requests as the http Client between them. I'm not seeing the trace id and flags automatically appended onto the headers, so I'm wondering what the mechanism is for it, and how I can make sure it works.
