EDITED: I can confirm now that the latest Ghostery version has memory leaks. It is not necessary to open a YouTube video — just open a few tabs with almost any website. and the RAM used by Ghostery will skyrocket above 2 GB in a blink of an eye.

Hi there,

Since last update (2023.9), Ghostery Private Browser uses both more RAM and CPU than before and than other Gecko-based web browsers. It even crashes with YouTube videos longer than 1hr in Full HD! 😫

Below it's a simple comparison.

  • Running web browsers under Troubleshoot Mode
  • Only one open tab with the same YT video playing in Full HD

What happened to Ghostery…?! 😭

Thank you for reporting. We may have identified the source of excessive memory usage is latest version of Ghostery extension. The fix is on the way.
