Question - Multi-User Mode

Hello,

I was wondering if it is possible to use a single running instance of an application, but use multiple different users copilot subscriptions.

For example, if I had an application where I first asked for a users GH_TOKEN, then stored that securely somewhere, could I use that users token to spin up a new CopilotClient() and that would under the hood use that users copilot subscription? Then if another user signs up and provides their GH_TOKEN, when they use a function of the application that calls the copilot-sdk that will use their subscription.

Was not sure the best place to ask this so if it needs to be moved to a discussion or the copilot discord channel for example I can do that.

Short answer: Yes, this should work! Each CopilotClient instance you create with a different GH_TOKEN will authenticate as that user and use their Copilot subscription.

The key is that authentication happens per-client instance, so:

const client2 = new CopilotClient({ auth: user2Token });

Each client will make requests under the respective user's identity and subscription quota.

Important considerations:

• Make sure you're securely storing and handling user tokens
• Be aware of rate limits per user
• Each client instance maintains its own session/connection state

Copilot was almost right there. You should be able to do this:
