Autocomplete

Enhancement Suggestion:

It would be nice if there was a way to auto-complete options when a user hits the tab key.

I would love this too. I've done a few prototypes of this feature and unfortunately in all cases autocomplete depends on the shell being used and what the shell lets you do.

• CMD: as far as I know, there is no way to customize autocomplete for the command line prompt. File name completion is the only feature offered.
• Powershell: Since PS is based on .Net, there are hooks into the autocompletion pipeline that we can take advantage of. Unfortunately, it's mostly attribute-based which makes it difficult to "automate". I've tried using reflection to inject the attributes based on an Option config, but I think PS may load the dll in a reflection-only context which prevents any code from running. Additionally, in order to autocomplete the EXE must be "installed" as a PS module but that could be accomplished by your app's installer.
• Bash: Linux's most popular shell offers a bit more comprehensive completion, but again it relies on external files that would need to be installed alongside your app.

I haven't given up on Powershell yet, but I come back every 6 months or so with fresh eyes and always seem to find myself stuck due to the "dynamic" nature of CommandLine.

Just one notice if you use zsh.
If you don't use sub command. It seems "gnu standard", which makes it possible to enable the flag completion by adding one simple line. Search for "_gnu_generic" here.
I did this quite a while ago, so it may not be correct.
