Either that or a way for the Fist gesture to blend not based on Neutral but something else

For anyone looking to do this today, Haï~ provided some info in discord:

you need to create a blend tree (there's a blend tree generator in CGE) and place the blend tree in the fist slots
if you put the same animation in all slots of the blend tree, it should effectively make the fist animation not require pressing the trigger
if you put different animations in the slots of the blend tree, then you can have the non-pressed animation being different than the pressed animation
