Plans for SDL3

I wanted to ask whether there are any plans for the release of SDL3 from your side? Will there be any SDL3 bindings on haskell-game?

Of course, the first stable version of SDL3 will still take a while to be released. So there is no need to do anything just yet.

I think this can be resolved if maintainers of haskell-game decide whether to get involved with SDL3 or not. In other words, whether they want to include SDL3 bindings as part of haskell-game.

Of course, it's also a valid decision to close this issue and decide later. I do not want maintainers to lose sleep over this.

I've been working on an OpenGL project with SDL2, and It bothers me writing code for a dead API, and vulkan is too much of a headache for small projects, The lack of vulkan or modern OpenGL support on Macs while I personally can live without, is probably a deal breaker for some developers (though MoltenVK exists), So I'm eager to have SDL3 for the GPU wrapper.

What would be required to get the sdl3 bindings ready, if anything for inclusion in haskell-game? Is there a chat room somewhere the devs hangout? I can probably look helping out.

Given our current library is called "sdl2", I think this would warrant a new library. You could start by forking sdl2 to sdl3 and continuing there?

I've gotten most of the raw bindings dealt with, though I've been busy with some other projects and am missing implementations of video, render and a few stray functions across different headers.

The non-raw bindings may need some touch ups since I am an FP novice and come from a mostly C & Python background.

@YellowOnion If you're curious about any examples that use GPU rendering, take a look at the GPU examples in sdl3-hs. I'm currently in the Haskell-Game Discord, but I admittedly do not pop in very often.

If anyone is actually interested in helping, I'd recommend reading over the examples first and taking some notes on what could be improved from a dev-ex perspective.

I'd like to get back to work on finishing the bindings and implementing all of the GPU examples sometime soon so that I can submit to Hackage.
