Current Situation

The VM image is listed as an installation option. However, the image is pretty outdated and is due for an update.

I recently got an issue on my repo that points out that there are dependencies missing … namely python venv which is included in the recent apt-package and therefore in the docker image and the raspberry pi os image. I would say it is time for the VM image.

Alternatively, I would suggest to deprecate this image officially as it does not seem to be actively maintained anymore. I did not even know this image is a thing until I got the issue that I have linked above.

@maxileith would you fancy having a go yourself? I for one don't have a windows machine and I'm pretty sure @NorthernMan54 does not either...

@bwp91 sorry I won't. I don't really like to beat around Microsoft BS in my free time ^^. Just was asking because of the before mentioned GH issue ... I would just deprecate the image if there is no one who maintains it, so users don't get confused about the image being outdated and not working with recent versions.

Server software should never be run on windows imo.

Maybe we should change the wiki page and README of this to ask for help from a Windows Guru ?

I made a Parallels VM using server version of Ubuntu and installed Homebridge and Scrypted with a fixed local IP. That works well! I have it running on Mac OS Snow Leppard Server in Parallels 9.

Anyone has any update on an "updated VM"? I can't seem to update Python and OpenSSL via the Homebridge VM iso started via Virtualbox on Win11. Thanks

We are still looking for someone with windows experience to take on managing. Most of the team are Mac users so don’t have the availability to validate and test builds etc
