Overview

ALPS 2026 part B involves the integration of climate impacts and seasonality as per this draft PR #429. Currently the code is experimental and is intended for the exploration of the integration pipeline.

There are a few key components to this project :

  1. Integration with MAGICC for global mean temperature(GMT) trajectory generation from emissions.
  2. Integration with RIME to calculate hydrology response based based (GMT) sequence.
  3. Seasonality incorporation :
    • Either via sub-annual time slices if computationally feasible at nexus scale.
    • Else use of reliability formulation.
  4. Integration with previous ALPS work on Chilled and Strurm models.

Timeline :

  • Investigate seasonality at 12 monthly and 2 sub annual steps as per the current state of the model. Early Oct
  • Integrate MAGICC with fast emissions reporting on nexus runs. Early Oct
  • Integrate RIME as the water availability emulator after getting a baseline temperature sequence. Mid Oct
  • Investigate FIRM capacity framework and reliability targets for water supply balancing. Early November
  • Full end to end integration. Mid November.
  • Policy Scenario Evaluations. November- Dec
