Various issues

Hello,

I use arch and KDE plasma (wayland).

I downloaded appimage version 1.4

Here is a list of bugs I noticed, some obviously more annoying than others:

• Recording won't start when I use the shortcuts.
• Links "Report Issue" and "Star on GitHub" won't open a browser
• The "Pro Tip" bubble do not display the correct shortcut if I changed from the default one (see screenshot)

Improvement suggestion:

• Print somewhere where are the models downloaded, allow another destination
• Because my shortcut for recording won't work, having a button somewhere to start a recording and stop it (so at least I could see if and how well this works), would be nice :)

Thanks for the writeup.

The hotkey not firing on KDE Wayland is almost certainly an evdev permissions issue — your user needs to be in the input group so VoiceFlow can read the keyboard device directly (Wayland doesn't let apps grab global hotkeys the way X11 does). I'll add a clearer check + message for this.

The broken "Report Issue" / "Star on GitHub" links are a Qt WebEngine thing on Linux where openUrl doesn't always hand off to xdg-open properly. I'll fix that. And the Pro Tip bubble is showing a hardcoded shortcut string instead of reading the current setting — easy fix.

For the suggestions: exposing the model path (and letting you change it) is a fair ask, and a manual record/stop button in the dashboard is a good fallback while the hotkey stuff gets sorted. I'll work on all of this for the next patch.

I don't think that adding user to input is the right way to go. I have others apps with global shortcut and none seems to require that.

Have you looked up into xdg-desktop-portal and Global shortcuts portal ? From my understanding, that's how apps should handle global shortcuts on wayland.

Fair point — the Global Shortcuts portal is the cleaner path on Wayland and I hadn't explored it properly. I'll look into it and see how well it works across KDE/GNOME/Hyprland before falling back to evdev.
