It seems there are different ways of disabling. I couldn't see a disable/enable exposed by VT, so I disabled the VTherm device using spook.

It looks very different to if I disable the vtherm from the three dots menu, as i can still see it in my list of devices and it only shows as disabled when I click on it

It looks like that instead of using spook to disable a device i needed to use spook to "disable an integration", which at first I thought would disable VT altogether, but when you dig in, it actually "disables an integration configuration entry" which gives the same result as when I use the three dots menu.
