Hotkey simulation triggers Meta key action

Short Summary

System: Hyprland, ArchLinux

I am usin MetaLeft+KeyF in kando-menu action. On my system MetaLeft+KeyF is bond by hyprland to fullscreen and MetaLeft is bound to Application launcher (vicinae).

If i use MetaLeft+KeyF from my keyboard everything works perfectly, but when i use kando to simulate this action, both action happens - fullscreen and application launcher.

Steps to Reproduce the Issue

1. use MetaLeft+KeyF
2. trigger the action using kando menu
3. MetaLeft+KeyF and MetaLeft both are triggered

To be honest, I have no idea. The wlroots key simulation code is here. So maybe you could run Kando from source and play a bit with the code there? But I think this could well be a problem on Hyprland's side. Using modifier keys like Meta for triggering actions is notoriously problematic as many applications do not receive buttons events for those keys but rather get the complete modifier button state alongside other key events. So who knows how hyprland handles virtual key presses for modifier keys internally...

@Schneegans i tried ydotool and it's working fine there. ydotool key 125:1 33:1 33:0 125:0 , 125:1 is super being pressed :0 is being release, 33:1 is f being presses.

Should i create Hyprland bug report? Hyprlan dosen't use wlroots.

Well, ydotool directly uses /dev/uinput which either requires root permissions or your user being part of some special groups. Kando cannot do this, instead it uses the Virtual Keyboard Wayland Protocol which is originally a wlroots thing but has also been implemented by Hyprland.

So the key events generated by Kando are definitely send to Hyprland on a somewhat higher level than what ydotool does. So there could be differences in how these are handled in Hyprland...

Is this a bug in Hyprland? I have no idea. I think Kando sends the right events in the right order...
