Short Summary

RPM installation of Kando doesn't launch on Fedora 44 KDE Plasma 6.6.4

The flatpak works, but pasting doesn't work, so I wanted to switch to the rpm.

Steps to Reproduce the Issue

1. Install Kando from kando-2.3.0-1.x86_64.rpm
2. Press app icon
3. Doesn't launch

Hi there! Have you tried running Kando from a command line to check for any error output?

I have the same issue and the console output is:
Failed to register kando:// protocol. Deep links will not work.
Running on Linux (KDE on wayland).

plasmashell 6.6.5

same trace as above. Tried running in xWayland, no luck
initially launched on first install. all subsequent launches crash, tried multiple reboots.

Hello! I also ran into this problem on Fedora 44 KDE Plasma.

From what I understand, this is related to the recent change mentioned in the Kando changelog:

On KDE Wayland and Hyprland the global-shortcuts portal now uses the correct application ID "menu.kando.Kando" even if running the non-flatpak version of Kando. As a consequence, you may need to update your global shortcut configurations.

I also saw the same trace as in the previous comments when trying to launch Kando from the command line.

I was able to solve it by creating a new desktop entry in ~/.local/share/applications named menu.kando.Kando.desktop:

After doing this, the kando command started working again.

On first launch, KDE prompted me to update the global shortcut bindings. In System Settings → Keyboard → Shortcuts, I had duplicate Kando entries. After reassigning the shortcuts to the new entry, I removed the old one.

I also removed the previous kando.desktop entry in ~/.local/share/applications, since otherwise launching from the application menu still pointed to the old shortcut context.
