Background
The Kubernetes SIG-Multicluster is proposing a standardized definition for the central cluster (currently termed "Host Cluster" in Karmada) to unify terminology across multi-cluster management projects like Karmada, OCM, clusternet, kubefleet, MCO, KubeAdmiral and so on. This initiative aims to improve cross-project interoperability and reduce ecosystem fragmentation.
To evaluate the impact of adopting this standard and gather user feedback, we are launching a community survey. Your input will directly influence Karmada's alignment with SIG-MC's proposal and guide our compatibility strategies.
Survey Objective
Assess adoption impact (e.g., API compatibility, product interfaces).
Identify user preferences for terminology (Host Cluster vs. Hub Cluster, etc.).
Key Questions
Are you using Karmada in production?
Which term do you prefer for the cluster where Karmada is installed? (currently termed Host Cluster in Karmada)
Option: Host Cluster
Option: Hub Cluster
Option: Management Cluster
Option: Command Cluster
Option: Meta Cluster
Other suggestions: propose another one
Which term do you prefer for the cluster which is managed by Karmada? (currently termed Member Cluster in Karmada)
Option: Member Cluster
Option: Spoke Cluster
Option: Workload Cluster
Option: Managed Cluster
Other suggestions: propose another one
Would renaming "Host Cluster" affect your usage?
Option: No impact
Option: Minor adjustment(eg., documentation updates)
Option: Major changes (e.g., API/CLI/UI compatibility issues)

[survey] Feedback Collection on SIG-Multicluster's Standard Definition for "Host Cluster" in Karmada
[survey] Need your feedback on Karmada Concept <Host Cluster>

I prefer using the terms Host cluster and member cluster. Which is very convinient to me. I see hub and spoke model specifying in Open cluster Management which one might get confused when exploring or using both the tools.
Uh oh!
