30% less browser performance when extension activated

Brief Summary

When keepassxc-browser is activated, the browser looses 30% performance. After recognizing less speed, I was able to reproduce it constantly and Speedometer confirms.

Expected Versus Actual Behavior

I would expect no performance degregation. What might help: An ability to activate the extenion only for specific sites - lookup database if a matching domain exists and after this, cache the "no" and do not analyse every website on this domain. Or: add an option to keep the extension disabled until manually enabled by clicking the extension icon.

Steps to Reproduce

I tried multiple chromuim based browsers over a period of time. Macbook Pro M4.

Currently we do this the other way around: you can disable the extension on some sites. You can also disable the dynamic input field detection from the settings, which is the main reason for possible performance loss. This means you'll have to manually fill the input fields via context menu or keyboard shortcuts.

Thanks for yout instant reply, @varjolintu :-) I am aware of the option to disable the extension for specific sites in the extensions settings. But: When browsing the internet, most of the sites do not have credentials to login with the extension so it should be the other way round. And also, it takes quite e lot time and the disabling is only a workaround for the performance issue.

One of the best solutions IMHO would be to constantly have the extension disabled until clicking the icon once to immediately trigger automatic detection and fill of credentials. This would also eliminate the performance issue on sites where you spend a lot of time on but need the extension for the first login - e.g. Amazon or GitHub.

This would required the extension to be disabled until you click the toolbar icon, which you probably meant. Without the dynamic input field detection, there's no way to add the Username Icon to input fields.

I can take a look at the performance and try to improve things. But if you are affected by the issue and want to just fill credentials and have no use for the extension otherwise, you could just use Global Auto-Type instead.

Oh I use the extension dozends of time every day and love it, also for passkeys. What I mean is that when the dynamic input field detection keeps disabled and only fires once when the icon is clicked, this might address the performance issue. When the extension is beeing disabled by default and only beeing enabled on specific pages, these pages are affected by the performance degregation after logging in, too.
