This introduction might also be the introduction to the dissertation as a whole, I'm not sure. What it DOES need to do is introduce the user to a bunch of different theories of PBR, define what it means to me, and then define how this dissertation (and my Beckett experiments) function as PBR for me. This should have a lot of footnotes. Think about what defining a term might look like on Twine.
