Roadmap: v5.0.0 revival

Goal

Make Playwright Skill current, cross-agent compatible, honest about adjacent tools, and small enough to maintain.

Phases

• Foundation: CI, smoke fixtures, tests, templates, dependency automation, and repository hygiene
• Agent Skills spec compliance and dependency/version refresh
• Slim executor and helper cleanup, including persisted scripts and browser configuration
• Modern Playwright instructions and progressive-disclosure documentation
• Cross-agent README, positioning, install paths, and showcase material
• v5.0.0 release and clean-install verification

Backlog policy

The existing PRs and issues are attached to this milestone. Small contributor-facing work gets an issue; maintainer-only implementation work is tracked by its PR. Contributor work will be credited even when the implementation is reworked to fit v5.

Maintainer decisions

• Keep the project active; do not archive it.
• Preserve the node run.js <script> entrypoint while removing its fragile temp-file wrapping.
• Treat helper removal as a v5 breaking change.
• Decline the Chinese trigger-keyword change with a README.zh-CN.md counter-offer.
• Decline the Smithery badge while acknowledging the contribution.
• Keep branch review protections; use the existing administrator bypass for maintainer PRs.

Progress will be updated as each phase lands. Discussion and help are welcome, especially on the issues labelled help wanted.

Contributor-sized follow-up issues: #40 Firefox/WebKit smoke coverage, #41 portable Windows artifact paths, #43 form-validation fixture, #45 Chinese README translation, #46 API reference audit. Foundation implementation is currently being prepared locally; the first implementation PR will link back here.

Local implementation now covers the foundation, spec compliance, executor/helper cleanup, and documentation refresh. Verification passes: npm test, Chromium smoke flow through node run.js, inline executor smoke, and skills-ref validate. The changes are currently in the working tree and ready to split into the planned implementation PRs.
