Cloud icon/'last online'

Out of curiosity I find the 'last online' and the cloud icon especially when playing a current opponent to be a bit inaccurate.

I'll be playing someone in a real-time game and it'll say last online 15 minutes ago even though they've literally played moves seconds ago or sometimes the cloud icon that turns green won't reflect someone is online who I know was seconds ago.

Is there any room for this to be more accurate or don't expect it to be reliable on such a micro level?
