GSoC 2026 Interest: Mesa-Geo PropertyLayer Refactor

Hey @wang-boyu and @jackiekazil

I am Krish Sharma, an active contributor in the Mesa repository. I started exploring the Mesa repo 1 month back and got some PRs merged.

Now I'm exploring Mesa-Geo and interested in contributing to the PropertyLayer refactor for GSoC 2026.

Can you tell me how should I start? I have already explored the introduction tutorial. What should I do next?

• Should I focus on understanding raster_layers.py first?
• Or the visualization pipeline?

Any docs or resources you'd recommend for onboarding?
