Unstable connection to Azure MSSQL database

Describe issue:
The connection to the database since a couple of releases is really unstable

Steps to Reproduce:

1. The connection to the database is working
2. after a couple of hours the connection is shown as active but queries failes
3. the extension needs to be disable and the re-enable to get access to the database

Expected Behavior:
To keep the connection open

Actual Behavior:
The connection to the database failed

Hi @trunks1997, can you let me know:

• what type of authentication is your problematic connection using?
• do you see any error messages popping up or in the MSSQL output panel or the F12 developer tools console?
• if you have either mssql.enableExperimentalFeatures or mssql.preview.useVscodeAccountsForEntraMFA enabled
• if your issue looks anything like [Bug]: mssql: Error 18456: Login failed for user '<token-identified principal>'. Incorrect or invalid token. #22031
  • if it it does, does the proposed fix in this comment help?

I have the same issue with the MSSQL extension. It I have been using it for a long time, but the connection issues started with version 1.42.0. If I downgrade to version 1.41 everything is works again.

With version 1.42.2 I cannot connect to the azure database at all.

I am using Azure SQL database with MFA.

Hope a fix is in the pipeline as I really love my vs code for mssql development.

Hey @fmorten-SE, did you try the fix in the comment you quoted (enabling the mssql.preview.useVscodeAccountsForEntraMFA flag)?
