intermittent failure of MIDI CC with arc and mac

have tried different cables. the diii connection seems to keep working now, but if i set ableton to receive midi cc it works for a minute or two, and then will silently fail - but the script keeps running on the arc. if i plug it back in once or twice it starts working again - but will fail after a minute or two.):

• does this happen with many / all scripts?

• does it happen without diii connected?
