Any ideas how to solve this? It's still an issue in v1.2.1 (macOS 12).

PS: it is also getting double duplicate notifications at times, i.e. the current notification plus its duplicate, and also the previous (old) notification plus its duplicate. EDIT: this seems to happen mostly at login (boot, wake from hibernation etc.).

This is a shell-script-based workaround that should work on macOS with terminal-notifier, and it gets rid of most duplicate and zombie notifications… sometimes, though, e.g. after wake from hibernation, when the system restarts all processes, a duplicate can still sneak through. (N.B.: on Macs with Apple Silicon you can apparently just use the Pushover iPadOS/iOS app, but with a shell script solution I have more control over what to do with a notification, e.g. launch an auxiliary local script, change the title, add info to the notification contents etc.)

(1) edit the following file

/usr/local/lib/node_modules/pushover-desktop-client/index.js

(2) look for the line

payload.message = message.message

and change it to

payload.message = message.id + ':' + message.message

(3) edit the following file

/usr/local/lib/node_modules/pushover-desktop-client/node_modules/node-notifier/notifiers/notificationcenter.js/usr/local/lib/node_modules/pushover-desktop-client/node_modules/node-notifier/notifiers/notificationcenter.js

(4) in line 9 change the notifier path to

'../vendor/mac.noindex/terminal-notifier.app/Contents/MacOS/pushover-notifier.sh'

(5) create a new shell script at the following location:

/usr/local/lib/node_modules/pushover-desktop-client/node_modules/node-notifier/vendor/mac.noindex/terminal-notifier.app/Contents/MacOS/pushover-notifier.sh

N.B.: the terminal-notifier app bundle is not code-signed, so this should cause no problems; if at some point in the future the app will be upgraded to universal binary with a code-signature, you will need to re-sign the bundle after adding the new file.

(6) edit the shell script to your liking or according to your user setup based on the following template:
