The need for more developers / technical development is one of the most pressing issues of Wikipedia and related projects (like the file repository Wikimedia Commons) today. That is because so many challenges and proposed improvements and innovations require development.

There aren't just proposals for changes to the MediaWiki code that Wikipedia runs on but also ideas for small JS "gadgets" or the Kotlin Commons app and many other things. I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I recommend checking it out as there are lots of interesting ideas (like enabling playing videos in the Commons app or a tool to copy categories from on language Wikipedia to another). You can also use the tag filter to find sth of interest. Helping with wishes there would be a pretty sure way to make a positive change.
