Disable Dark Mode

The latest version of PyData Sphinx Theme offers a Dark/Light mode toggle. Is there a way to disable Dark mode completely? I read here that you can set:

html_context = {
   # ...
   "default_mode": "light"
}

but I am looking for a permanent way to disable dark mode completely if possible (or at least until we've had a chance to test how things look). Several of our users have complained about how hard it is to read in Dark mode (it somehow defaults to Dark for them). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

@choldgraf in the previous implementation of the header bar, to remove the theme switcher, you needed to customize the "navbar_end" is it still the case ?

For my pixel 6 I realised, that when in chrome I use the system default setting for the design and set my phone to dark mode,
it will show our webpage (https://damask.mpie.de) in dark mode, even though I set the default to light and disable the version switcher.
Some of our figures currently do not work for dark mode and therefore I would like to disable it completely.
I am however not sure whether this can be solved by the theme or whether it is a more general problem.

@FranzRoters did you try setting default_mode="light" inside html_context in conf.py (as mentioned at the top of this discussion), and then rebuilding/redeploying the site? Do you still see dark mode on your phone after that?

also note you'll want to disable the theme switcher (light/dark) not the version switcher (maybe this was just a typo)

@drammock Indeed the default_mode is set in conf.py as you suggest. And yes, I certainly meant to write theme switcher.

It works as intended for Firefox and Edge on Windows, even if I choose dark mode in the Firefox/Edge settings the site shows the light version. I.e. I am not sure, whether this is a Pixel phone thing or a Chrome thing. I do not have Chrome installed on my Windows machine.

I have to apologize. I tested it with the phone of a colleague, where it worked as expected. So I finally completely reseted Chrome on my phone and that solved the issue. I have no idea what it actually cached to get this effect, as I did see the light version when setting Chrome to light theme.
