[ocs-metrics-exporter] Seeing unexpected error message lines in metrics exporter logs

On an MCO cluster environment, ocs-metrics-exporter is throwing following error message lines,

failed to get PVC appset1/busybox-pvc: persistentvolumeclaims "busybox-pvc" is forbidden:
User "system:serviceaccount:openshift-storage:ocs-metrics-exporter" cannot get resource "persistentvolumeclaims" in API group "" in the namespace "appset1"

Initial check from the error message is that:
We have recently changed the metrics exporter design to watch only local namespace in which it is being deployed. So by default it which watch for PVC (and other resources) only on openshift-storage namespace (which is the namespace exporter is currently deployed).
Thus when asked to get info on a PVC in appset1 namespace, the error is being thrown.

Need further investigation on how the code path is reached.
