NTFS-3G not enabled by default

Using 20260216 and the R-Pi Imager to create a bootable USB SSD image (no SD card). I reserved some space on the SSD for music file storage and formatted it with NTFS. rAudio boots up OK but cannot access the NTFS parttion due to absence of the ntfs-3g modules. I had to SSH into the aarch, login as root and install the utils with pacman -S ntfs-3g before I could mount the partition from the system dialog. Could it be included in a later build of the OS please?

Why impose an MS filesystem overhead on a small Linux app ? Why not format the remaining space as EXT-4 and use WinSCP / Filezilla if you need copy music files from a Windows environment. Works out of the box.

Because I want to. It suits my use case. I want to be able to plug the USB SSD into both Linux and Microshaft environments. It isnt a major issue for me to add the ntfs-3g module, but it might help someone who (randomly) inserts an NTFS device and doesn't know why it won't work.

Plus, the overhead ain't huge at a tad over 3 MiB...

Linux Kernel 5.15+ already support NTFS filesystem by NTFS3 driver.

@rern - Right, now I am confused. I have jusr removed the ntfs-3g package and it still works.

As what I am doing here (i.e. NOT booting from SD Card) is probably fairly esoteric, I guess it is best to leasve things as they are ;-)

As with many other features, I think this is something which should be an addon, rather than built-in.

(To satisfy my own curiosity more than anything else) I rebuilt the SSD based rAudio using the same hardware. As previously; I user the RPi-Imager tool to write the 20260216 image to the SSD then, prior to the initial boot of rAudio, I used GPARTED to expand out the root partition to 16GB and format the remainder of the SSD as NTFS. I can confirm that the NTFS partition did indeed mount without the addition of any other packages. I still have no idea why the process did not work correctly the first time around - I shall put it down to the Malice of Inanimate Objects.
