Description
Where a rule is making reference to another rule (e.g. an imported CERT or MISRA enforcement) or a specific vulnerability described outside the FLS, it really ought to be able to cite that other document or section in a structured way. For cases where we have modified and adopted another rule this is essential attribution; for places where the goal is to guard against a vulnerability, it's more helpful to be able to see the definition of it.
Not all rules will have such references, especially if they are original to this group, but the field should exist so that where it applies, it can be made consistent and therefore searchable etc.
The proposed action for this would be to add a references
field to the rule template, which can be left empty, or can link to a document, chapter, or rule, cited in a global references table in a dedicated chapter.
