APIDA is an acronym that stands for: Asian Pacific Islander Desi American

APIDA can be used to explicitly include intersections of Pan-Asian identity that are often left in the margins of representation.

Usage:

For more resources, I will recommend APIDA Information Resources from the Virginia Library. There are many "resource portals" like this one, but this is a good place to start as there are many links to other resources. I'm not from Virginia - but their library did a really good job publishing that web page to index all those links. There's a rabbit hole to explore if you like researching about APIDAs in American history!

I am looking for help from the APIDA community here to discuss how to add this terminology to the database and the specific wording that should be added.

I think that the Virginia Library has a really good definition:

We use the term APIDA, which stands for Asian Pacific Islander Desi American, as a pan-ethnic classification that intentionally includes South Asians (Desi) as part of the community. There is a great diversity of identities and ethnicities encompassed under the APIDA umbrella, including East Asian, South Asian, Southeast Asian, and Pacific Islander. This term ultimately includes all people of Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islander ancestry who trace their origins to the countries, states, jurisdictions and/or the diasporic communities of these geographic regions.

Would we be able to submit (maybe a modified version of) that, and attribute it in the dictionary?

It's worth being explicit -- APIDA is NOT just people living in America!!!

@ajtran303 I'd be happy to help you to edit this if you're able to take a first pass at writing the definition. We can put a word out to ask folks to review.
