• Step 2: focus does not move. Steps 2–3: every subsequent keystroke is swallowed (nothing inserted in either pane) until a BEL/ST byte arrives.
• Step 4: focus does not move, and the next typed key is misparsed as a CSI key (typing A moved the cursor up — parsed as ESC [ A = Up).
• Control: running "Focus Next Split" from the View menu works, so only the key chords are broken.
