When performing backscatter simulations for ice, I referred to the parameter settings in the paper "Investigating the Effect of Lake Ice Properties on Multifrequency Backscatter Using the Snow Microwave Radiative Transfer Model." I noticed that in the backscatter simulations for lake ice, the radius for snow is set as the optical radius, while the radius for ice is set as the bubble radius. I would like to ask about the reason for this parameter setting in lake ice under the SHS microstructure model. I sincerely appreciate your response.
