How do the upgrades work?

This is an oddity in the Minecraft community where features of mods just don't seem to be explained anywhere? This isn't the first mod I've seen that does this. But, in this case, there doesn't seem to be a recipe for adding upgrades, I couldn't find a button that does it, etc... tried to look back at old showcases for the Forge version to find the answer but didn't pick anything up, the original mod doesn't explain it either, I guess you just know or you don't. I even picked through the source code to see if I could pick up a clue. Maybe it's super obvious but I'm not seeing it.

Digging a bit more into the code it seems to be the Grapple Modifier block which I guess is as obvious as it can be. Still, a quick line describing it wouldn't go amiss in the description.

So far there is advancement support, better recipe book integration, & an updated UI. I'll add a bit of text to the UI or a guidebook like a lot of other mods add. Suggestions are very much welcome.

Copied from a recent discord answer though -- the basic process of the mod:

All upgrade related items stem from the base upgrade that can be crafted like:

These can be used to craft the Grappling hook modifier block like:

Right clicking on this block with anything except a hook will open up its UI as shown below. Each of the category buttons take you to a set of properties to can change for the hook, however each of the categories are locked by default in survival.

the upgrade items for each of these categories can be crafted using the base upgrade item. (seen below) I recommend you use the crafting recipe book for this.

The crafting recipe book may be broken for v1 so using /recipe give @a * should unlock all recipes.

Once you've crafted an upgrade, right-clicking the grapple hook modifier block with the upgrade will unlock that category!

Now you can set all the properties you want and right click the block with a hook to apply everything to that hook:

It's a bit ... non-standard (?) for Minecraft so the explanation helps a lot! Like, a "common" Minecraft-y approach is with a grid or block or perhaps combining items to "upgrade" a thing so it didn't immediately click what needed to be done. I appreciate you putting it here: it may help some other hapless Steve or Alex out there!
