Frequency: every Saturday
Time: Afternoon
Starting in the month of October (so as to coincide with Hacktoberfest), host a casual half-day hackathon where attendees contribute to open source projects. Those who complete the Hacktoberfest requirements will get a free T-shirt, and OSS will get more eyes and minds involved in their efforts.
While it would be ideal that projects are Denton-focused, for now and with the recent environmental crises with groups springing up to try and help, we'll recommend some projects that seem to need the most immediate attention.
(here's a few)
It would be extra great if there was enough interest to start up a Code For America brigade. But we need to do some more research into what kind of obligations might also be involved in that kind of commitment. For more, check out Austin's brigade and some of the projects that they are sponsoring.
If you have additional OSS projects that should be included on this list, please share!
