Would be great to generate bytecode as a compiler plugin and get rid of the need to delegate to library methods.

You can do it for non-data classes, but the data classes compiler plugin will overwrite you unfortunately. It only defers to user-written code. https://github.com/ZacSweers/redacted-compiler-plugin

ah that's a bummer 🤔 . I don't think I want to enforce a class hierarchy just for this, delegating the function seems like a better buy-in.
