Upcoming Change: Standardized File Headers & Coding Conventions

Hi everyone,

As the Untold Engine grows, it’s important that our codebase stays clear, consistent, and easy to contribute to. These kinds of improvements may not add new features, but they make the project more maintainable and welcoming for everyone who joins in.

Once the editor/engine decoupling feature is merged, I’ll be making two repository-wide updates:

1. File headers

   • I’ll update headers at the top of all source files.
   • Instead of listing my personal name, they will now state Untold Engine Studios as the copyright holder.
   • Each header will also reference the project license (LGPL v3.0 or later).
   • This change makes it clear that the project is collectively owned and licensed, while individual authorship remains properly tracked through Git history and in the CONTRIBUTORS.md file.

2. Coding conventions

   • Our engine needs a clearer and more unified set of naming conventions (for functions, global variables, enums, extensions, etc.).
   • I’ll be applying these conventions across the codebase so that everything follows the same style.
   • This will make the engine easier to read, maintain, and contribute to in the long run.
