UTM Crashes Mullvad DNS Resolver

Describe the issue
I run Mullvad VPN on my MBP. Whenever I run a UTM VM, DNS resolution crashes on my Mac (no servers can be reached) but DNS works fine in the VM. Mullvad proxies DNS so all requests are tunneled. It runs a resolver on 127.0.0.1.

There is nothing in any logs which give a clue what is occurring here. Any guidance on where to begin debugging this issue would be appreciated.

VPN solutions such as Mullvad are not supported because they block traffic. See also #6788

You can use VMware it requires root privileges and sets up a virtual network. UTM does not use privileges, and cannot do the same.

But IIRC it works with emulated vlan, but doesn't allow vm-vm networking:
