why can't we have the v0 front end ?

When I watch the evolution of v0, I wonder at the similarities between that front end and this template, and I wonder why we can't just have the v0 front end ?

It seems a bit strange to have two groups at vercel working on two remarkably similar things ?

Not that anyone actually asked me, but if I was presenting this case to Vercel about releasing the v0 front end, the salient points are:

1. this chat template showcases the Vercel infrastructure offering, for example I signed up to vercel pro because of this template, but I had to find v0 separately - why not showcase v0 and drive traffic towards that platform at the same time as expending resources to make a very similar open source version of v0, ie: this template ?
2. v0 aims to make front end dev nearly costless as it advances, and so in about a year, v0 should be able to generate a v0 front end clone rather accurately - if releasing v0 front end as open source is delayed until that point, it would have lost the marketing effect of releasing it now, but still be in the same position.

Ultimately, it would be epic if v0 could be tuned to be able to generate versions of itself, ie: versions of v0 using its front end template and the ai sdk, which would help every user of this template immensely and incent us to sign up to v0 pro.

What makes v0 special is not its front end, but the proprietary tuning and training of the bots behind it. Why not turn us template users into avid customers of v0 right now ? We might even help fix it up for free perhaps, given the opportunity.

@inverted-capital What do you mean exactly by 'front-end'? The UI/UX? This template is using manyt of the same underlying libraries, such as shadcn, lucide and framer motion. You can easily use v0 to edit the template to look just like that, if you want.

the v0 UI has significantly more advanced use of blocks, and it has preview mode for those blocks. Making it look the same is only part of the story - having the logic work is a lot of labour.

The current blocks functionality in this template replicates some of the v0 functions, and so my question is why does vercel expend energy on two similar things, why not release one thing and focus all the energy there ?

V0 is a product that generates revenue, this is a free template that demonstrates chat capabilities using next.js and the Vercel AI library.

They are completely different things in that aspect.
