Verification email for selfhosted instance problem

Steps to Reproduce

1. Go to profile settings
2. Press on "Send verification email"
3. Get redirected to main page with confirmation message

Expected results: Email should arrive to the given address

Actual results: email does not arrive even after long time of waiting

I have a self hosted instance of wger and i want to verify the email so that i can add exercised that i am using, that are not present in the online list. When i try to verify the email i dont get anything even after 24h have passed. I am not sure if i need to set anything else up in order to get this working or is this not possible while it is self hosted?
