What is your idea?

Starting with Astro 3.4, a new experimental dev toolbar is available which should be unflagged soon. The Dev Toolbar App API allows integrations (like Starlight) to add new apps to the toolbar with custom features.

The goal of this discussion is to see if there is an interest in a Starlight dev toolbar app and if so, what features would be useful to have.

Why is this feature necessary?

I've started experimenting with the new API a while ago and played around with some ideas and I came up with the following prototype as a fun experiment:

From the features I experimented with and some feedback I got from users, here's some ideas of what I think could maybe be useful to have:

• Overview
  • A basic default landing tab with various Starlight related infos like the version, etc.
  • Links to GitHub, Discord, etc.
  • Display the latest version of Starlight available?
• All Pages
  • List of all pages with various informations like the language
  • Some tags to indicate if the page is a fallback page, etc.
  • An input to filter the list of pages with a fuzzy search
  • A link to navigate to a page and a button to Edit (or create the file for fallback pages) the page in the editor
• Current Page
  • The current page with frontmatter fields visible so it's easy to check a description for example
  • A button to Edit the page in the editor
  • A preview of all the route data for the current page.
• i18n
  • A preview of the Starlight i18n configuration
  • A picker to select a language and see the status of the translations for this language (e.g. X fallback pages, etc.)
• Configuration
  • A preview of the Starlight configuration
  • We could imagine at a later stage to allow editing some of the configuration fields directly from the app but I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not?
• Plugins
  • A list of all the plugins used by Starlight
  • Maybe similar to the Integrations list in the default Astro dev toolbar
  • We could imagine at a later stage to allow adding/removing plugins directly from the app if we can ever astro add plugins and astro add add a non-interactive mode (but I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not either)?

On a more technical side, one question could be "should this be an official app built-in with Starlight or should this be a separate community app?". If the community app route is possible, I feel like this would end up reimplenting a lot of the same code that is already in Starlight just to get some data that is already available in Starlight.

I'm eager to hear your thoughts on this and if you have any other ideas of features that could be useful to have in a Starlight dev toolbar app.
