Blocking numbers that should not be blocked

Issue:
Some numbers are being blocked even though I have them in added in contacts

Please look at photos,
Am I doing something to have this happening?

It's not just 1 or 2 contacts, specifically, it's random contacts

And app allows contacts who were originally blocked via app, to go through, sometimes it doesn't

It all seems correct to me, it should work. The only slightly suspicious thing is that you didn't give the app the needed permissions, but those are related to SMS and not calls. May be it doesn't work on Android 15?

By the way, please erase numbers from your screenshots before publishing them, it's a very bad practice.

those numbers are all scams, thts the reason i didnt delete the numbers, as your right. its very bad practice.
the ones im referring to is this one.

if you see the contact "webb" with the blocked symbol, where as the other numbers arent added as contacts they are scam callers.

You can try my old "temporary fix" fork, may be it will work for you: https://github.com/Efenstor/Silence/releases. I am still using it myself though I am also still using Android 13 (LineageOS 20) and yours is Android 15.

The changes I did there also included some fixes in the "Silence Call" logic and those also were already accepted into the main branch, but since there is still no new release my fork seems to be the only option you can try without manual compilation.

I was (am) using this older version (some how missed the new recent releases) under android 15 and 16, was working fine and then recently blocking all calls in Contacts. Ended up de-selecting contacts option and got prompted to re-allow permission. Presumably permissions got lost. Re-enabled and all working fine for me now. Sticking with the older smaller APK for now (new one is triple the size with the new tech stack).

I installed Silence from F-Droid and then I changed the APP permissions so that Silence could access all data from the services it manages.
I set it to not block calls from people in my contacts. I also set it to not block people whom I have called.

I have Android 12 on a 2 year old 5G model from Nokia. This APP can access calls, texts, logs, & contacts.

After 2 days of all calls being blocked I checked it by calling myself from my land line number. It IS already in my contacts.

The call was blocked and the call history showed that it WAS from a contact! I called the number from my phone 3 times in a row.

And then I tried again and the call was STILL Blocked! (See Screenshot)

This APP is blocking all incoming calls from my Contacts - AND from People who I have called.

What does that unlabeled icon that you circled in your screenshot do? The only control who's use is obvious and intuitive is that huge "On" bar at the bottom - nothing else is intuitive or obvious. Is that icon a SECOND on/off switch? And which one of those two has priority then?

All of these multiple On/Off toggles, and confusingly worded settings - that override each other, are very difficult to figure out.

All I wanted was for people in my contacts, or people I text or call, to be able to call or text me - and texts and calls from all unknown numbers to be blocked. Right now everything is blocked - even me and I'm in my contacts and I've called myself - and I'm still blocked.

What permissions do I need to give this app - and what are ALL of the settings (In all of the sub-settings also) supposed to be in order to do this? Is there any manual (or documentation at all) that shows what each setting does, and which other settings it overrides, anywhere?

@SeaMac At the first screenshot I see that the grey "block" sign in the top right corner is not crossed over. That means you have the "Block mode" on, which means all incoming calls will be blocked unconditionally. Click it and it should fix your problem. I am not a big fan of that mode myself, it may be needed only in rare cases when you need to simulate the permanent "away" status. May be it's only me but I think it shouldn't be in such an easily accessible place anyway.

As of the overall confusing concept of the app, for example the alternative SpamBlocker app is equally confusing. May be a good solution is to join some settings into three generic scenarios: "away", "ignore", "reject".
