The error you're seeing is the result of node-hid being unable to build due to a sub-dependency versioning issue.

To give you an idea of where it arises from and a comparison of outdated and current releases here's an outline.

A patch could be applied to support Node versions past v14 by adding the following in package.json.

	"node-hid":  "^2.1.1"
},

Because of the OpenSSL 3 support in Node v17, you would also have to modify the scripts as such:

In my opinion, it makes sense to remain on Node v14 for the time being especially if there aren't any newer features that would be directly used.
