I'm considering checking Properties['context.default.azurecli.msaltelemetry'] empty or not to judge whether it's using MSAL managed identity or ADAL managed identity. In such case, we don't need to add new property in telemetry. The new property will be a throw-away work after several versions.

msal_telemetry is designed to be MSAL C++'s telemetry for WAM:

azure-cli/src/azure-cli-core/azure/cli/core/auth/util.py

Lines 122 to 125 in 29a241f

# msal_telemetry should be sent no matter if the MSAL response is a success or an error
if 'msal_telemetry' in result:
from azure.cli.core.telemetry import set_msal_telemetry
set_msal_telemetry(result['msal_telemetry'])

If you print(result) here, you will see it is
