[Feature Request] Publish PyMsalRuntime and Microsoft Identity Broker for Linux ARM64 #949

Closed

Description

@bmiddha

MSAL client type

Public

Problem Statement

MSAL Python supports enable_broker_on_linux and enable_broker_on_wsl, but pip install "msal[broker]" cannot succeed on Linux ARM64:

  • PyPI publishes PyMsalRuntime Linux wheels only for x86_64.
#!/usr/bin/env bash
set -euo pipefail

dir="$(mktemp -d)"
python3 -m venv "$dir/venv"
"$dir/venv/bin/pip" install --only-binary=:all: \
  "pymsalruntime>=0.20,<0.21"
Linux haloed-grayling 7.0.0-28-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sun Jun 21 00:50:10 UTC 2026 aarch64 GNU/Linux
ERROR: Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement pymsalruntime<0.21,>=0.20 (from versions: none)
ERROR: No matching distribution found for pymsalruntime<0.21,>=0.20

Proposed solution

Deliver Linux ARM64 support as one coordinated release across the native broker, MSALRuntime, PyMsalRuntime, and MSAL Python validation.

    Hi Bharat Middha (@bmiddha), thanks for reaching out about this!

    I have some good news and some bad news for you.

    • The good news is that we are actively tracking bring broker support to Linux on ARM64 across all our MSALs in our roadmap.
    • The bad news is that due to the scope of this work and current prioritization, I can't provide a specific ETA or timeframe.

    Please continue to check back over time, we'll be sure to publicly announce it when we roll out broker support on ARM64 Linux across the MSAL lineup.
