# Distinguished Service Award

The Distinguished Service Award recognizes volunteers who have made outstanding contributions to the Black Python Devs community. The annual award honors individuals whose dedication, leadership, and impact have made a meaningful difference in the Black Python Devs (BPD) community.

## Award details

Recipients of the Distinguished Service Award receive the following:

- $500 USD cash award
- An official certificate presented in person at an upcoming conference event
- Exclusive Black Python Devs merchandise, including a t-shirt and special sticker pack

## Who can receive the award?

Any member of the Black Python Devs community who has demonstrated exceptional service and contributions to the community.

## Who cannot receive the award?

The following individuals are not eligible for the award:

- Members of the leadership team
- Previous award recipients
- Individuals with a conflict of interest related to the selection process

## Selection process

The leadership team nominates and votes for candidates throughout the year. The selection considers factors such as community impact, consistent contributions, leadership demonstrated, and positive influence on other members.

## Program budget

The annual budget for this program is $700 USD, which covers the cash award, certificate, and merchandise.

## Payment process

Award recipients coordinate with Black Python Devs leadership to receive their cash award. Payment can be processed through wire transfer, Wise, or PayPal, depending on the recipient's location and available options. See [Paying for things and seeking reimbursement](../../policies/paying-for-things-and-getting-reimbursed.md) for details on payment methods.

Since Black Python Devs is a fiscally hosted organization under the GNOME Foundation, all new programs require GNOME Board approval.

Fill out and submit this template to the GNOME Foundation when notifying them of a new BPD program:
