Encoding Directions

Information on object dimensions is located at fileDesc/sourceDesc/msDesc/physDesc/objectDesc/supportDesc/support/dimensions.

Enter the dimensions of the object, where known, into the relevant spaces in the Author Mode Template. For rectilinear objects enter the maximum height (top to bottom), width (left to right), and depth (front to back) of the object. For cylindrical objects, enter (or measure) the circumference of the object and mark according to the EpiDoc guidelines for dimensions: “for dimensions other than the three linear ones, dim, which may take a type such as "diameter", "arc", etc.”.

<dim> elements should be added using the “Text” view, as it is not available in Author Mode; for more detail, see https://epidoc.stoa.org/gl/latest/supp-descdimensions.html. Indicate fragmentary dimensions by adding a plus sign following the dimension. Dimensions are always in centimeters.
