Hi there 👋

I’m Eoghan McCarthy, a Python-focused software engineer and data scientist with a background in machine learning, backend development, and distributed systems. I hold a B.Eng. in Electronic & Computer Engineering and recently completed an M.Sc. in Computer Science – Data Science at Trinity College Dublin.

I have one year of professional experience as a Software Developer and previous data science internships, working across financial services and academic research.


🔭 What I’m working on

  • Putting forward my MSc dissertation for publication:
    Designed an end-to-end AI/ML pipeline synchronising 373k+ facial emotion recognition frames with 30M+ financial datapoints.
    This work investigated how non-verbal emotional cues from public communications influence short-term market volatility, combining emotion recognition (iMotions/Affectiva), high-frequency time series analysis, and Python-based statistical modelling.

  • Terminal Bench – Currently contributing benchmark-hardening tasks for agentic coding evaluation, focusing on designing and validating more robust terminal-based tasks for AI agents.
