Welcome to the MapStory wiki! MapStory officially supports IE 9+, FF 31+, and Chrome 52.5+.

About MapStory

MapStory is the free atlas of change that everyone can edit. We are a community, not a company, working to organize humanity’s shared knowledge about how the world evolves geographically over time, and to make this knowledge easily accessible as an open educational resource. Our work is sustained by the nonprofit MapStory Foundation and dedicated volunteers and sponsors.

Help Out with a Community Initiative!

Every year the MapStory Foundation works with sponsors and mapstorytellers to spearhead Community Initiatives around priority content areas. Right now the MapStory community is working together on Initiatives that address invasive species, political gerrymandering, women’s history, beer and more. Click on an Initiative below to learn more. If you have an idea for a future Community Initiative, or you would like to financially support a Community Initiative, email [email protected].

Creating Issues

Have you experienced a problem while using MapStory? If so, we welcome you to create an issue that our open-source developer community can work to address! Before you submit an issue, please search our existing issues in Github so we avoid duplicates. Also, take a look at the Guidelines below. Following these guidelines will help your issue to be prioritized and placed in our scrum pipeline.

Developer Guides

Just joined the team or planning to develop on the project? Here are some styleguides and contribution guidelines that will help you get up to speed:

MapStory.org Site Map

We've got a site map as well as some documentation about where to find particular templates, Javascript assets, etc., and where we're overriding or relying on other open source projects for our UI. Check out the Site Map page for the deep dive.

MapStory.org Roadmap

Interested in what the team will be up to in the future? Check out our MapStory-Road-Map for details. The the list starts with items we hope to tackle in the near-term, and is roughly in order of priority with farther-future pursuits we are still working to define near the bottom. Note that priorities (especially those closer to the bottom) may naturally shift and change order as the team completes work.
