Canning! Could it get any more exciting? You’d be surprised. Stavanger’s culture and history is deeply embedded in the fishing and producing of sardines. This museum tells the story of the Canning Factory and its development over the years. It’s in equal parts fascinating and horrifying when you realise the dangers and squalid conditions the worked had to endure. You also get to see the world’s largest sardine tin!!!

The building also houses the Norwegian Printing Museum with a wide selection of old printing presses, among other things the handpress from c. 1850 and the quick presses Johanniberg and Heidelberg. There is also a proper printing works, with hand composing, composing machines, proofing, making-up, imposition and not least bookbinding. Experience the craftsmanship of the printing works, with the tools, machines, traditions and processes demonstrated by volunteers.
