Please see if this fixes the axis.obj file to have the X symbol and bar to be on the positive X axis in the model.
I very well could be missing or misunderstanding something but this fixed it in my experiments.
I spent about a week trying to find out what was wrong with my code only to discover that the original model apparently (unless I'm misunderstanding something) has the X symbol and bar on the negative X axis.
