- The primary goal of the package is to provide... How does it compares to other packages or applications like AWIPS II, … ? JWL thoughts: AWIPS, from what I understand, is really only available for use in forecast form. So, if you're not at a NWS office that has AWIPS installed for the use of operational forecasters (which usually is a pretty significant operations center), you don't have direct access to the routines. But a number of the routines should be of use to many people, not just operational forecasters.
