I think the hold tracking still needs adjusting. With overlapping holds, device-specific bindings can leave an action stuck, and a short W trigger can release a longer Shift+W hold early. Re-triggering after an external release can also report success without pressing again while the original hold timer is still pending. Could you look into those cases?

Thanks, reproduced all three. Each trigger now always sends its press, and holds are grouped by what a release actually matches (device and key, ignoring modifiers).

Thanks, the earlier cases are working now. However, holding Left Shift for 0.2 seconds alongside Right Shift for 0.8 seconds keeps both pressed for 0.8 seconds because their locations share a counter. Could you preserve independent expiry for location-specific bindings? There’s also a rarer release-ID collision: bindings with logical A + physical W and logical A + physical D both use the same |

Thanks, both reproduced. Holds are now tracked per full key identity (device, keycode, physical keycode, label and location), so Left and Right Shift expire independently and the W and D holds each send their own release. Only modifiers are left out, so a short W still doesn't end a longer Shift+W. One thing that stays: when two bindings share a logical key, releasing either one releases both actions, since the engine matches keycode bindings that way for real keyboards too. |

Sorry for another follow-up, and thanks for the fixes so far. If a key is released while its hold timer is still running, triggering it again sends a repeat event, leaving physical-key state released. Could you send a fresh press when the key is no longer down? |
|
Reproduced, fixed. A repeat now checks whether the key or button is still down and sends a fresh press if it isn't, so key state comes back after an external release. It's only sent as an echo while the input is still held. |

Fixes #1507
trigger_actionpressed the action, blocked the game's main thread for 50 ms, then released it. Both events landed in the same frame, so anything pollingInput(e.g.Input.get_axis()in_physics_process) never saw the action. The release is now scheduled with a
SceneTreeTimerinstead of blocking. The hold time defaults to 0.1 s and can be set with the existingsecondsargument, so you can hold an action for movement:{"action": "trigger_action", "action_name": "move_right", "seconds": 0.5}Overlapping holds of the same input (including key location, so left/right Shift stay separate) are counted, so triggering an action again while it's held extends the hold instead of releasing it when the first timer ends. The timer ignores
Engine.time_scale, sosecondsis real time.Verification
Built with
scons platform=linuxbsd target=editorand used the scene from the issue (CharacterBody2Dmoving at 400 px/s withInput.get_axis):Holding
move_rightfor 1 s and triggering it again 0.5 s in gives a single press and release, about 1.5 s apart (+633 px). WithEngine.time_scale = 0.25, a 0.5 s hold releases after 500 ms real time, and overlapping Left/Right Shift holds release independently (0.3 s and 1.0 s).Before this change the position never moved. The game doesn't stall while an action is held, and short taps still go through as normal key events, so
_inputhandlers see them like before.Summary by CodeRabbit
